Haay,, hirap talaga maka-influence ang mga Artist sa Uk dito sa Philippines! Puro American Singers talaga! kung hindi naman mga Canadian, Australian etc. BUT WAIT! I can’t get enough of this Artist! She’s One of the BEST around there! With her 5 OCTAVE voice comparable to Minnie Ripperton (yung kumanta ng lalala Loving you…) and Mariah Carey (know for her Great Vocals and her famous Whistle Register!). Grabe itong si Leona! No Wonder She Won X-FACTOR (yung ala Pinoy Dream Academy at Philippine Idol at American Idol sa UK!) and being the favorite of Simon Cowell (judge din siya sa The X-Factor!) grabe! we saw the same in Leona! She’s the VOICE sa Lahat ng TOP Female Artist sa PINAKA ko! well, pinakilala kolang siya sa inyo…(sa mga di nakakakilala sa kanya! She’s Really a Huge Fame & Name sa UK & the whole Ireland!) Mas malulula kayO sa mga Credits na nakamit niya sa taOng 2007 at kung bakit she’s behind those American Female Artist below her…HERE it it…..

*In its first day of release in the UK, Spirit was reported to be outselling its nearest rival, the Spice Girls’ Greatest Hits album, by two-to-one. It sold over 130,000 copies on 12 November 2007, and entered the UK Albums Chart on 18 November 2007 at number one, having sold 375,872 copies. The album sales in the first week averaged at 200 per minute. In its fourth week of release, Spirit sold around 180,000 copies. In its fifth week it sold around 228,000 copiesand in its sixth it sold around 286,000. Spirit stayed at the top of the UK Albums Chart for seven weeks, and has so far sold 1,590,000 copies in the UK.

The album became the second biggest selling album in the UK of 2007 and the fastest million-seller by a solo female in the UK in just 29 days.

*The first critical review of “Bleeding Love” described it as “emotionally fuelled”, saying, “this track perfectly showcases Leona’s impressive vocal prowess and from the moment she opens her mouth we are instantly reminded about her amazing voice, capable of heart stopping intensity and a playful light touch.” Contrastingly, another critic expressed that “the inventive percussion can’t stop “Bleeding Love” from sounding dated, like filler on some long-lost, late ’90s Mariah Carey album. It’s one of those mid-tempo numbers — too slow for the club, too fast for the foxtrot. Actually, with its marching band drum beat, it sounds as much like Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” as a ballad can.” The critic continues to say, “On to the positive: Lewis wisely restrains her vocals, never devolving into those vocal acrobatics that have historically plagued Christina Aguilera.”

*It had sold around 107,000 downloads and 112,000 CD singles. In its second week, the single sold 158,370 copies, and in its third, it sold 111,978 copies, bringing the total sales to 489,153 and making “Bleeding Love” the biggest selling single of 2007 so far. At the end of 2007, after ten weeks, the single had sold a total of 788,000 copies and was the biggest selling single of the year.

According to VH1, “Bleeding Love” is the second most downloaded track in the UK in 2007, just behind Rihanna with “Umbrella”.

                                                                          ***CHART PERFORMANCE***
“Umbrella” spent seven weeks at number one in the United States and dominated radio airplay for the first half of the summer. On the issue dated June 9, 2007, “Umbrella” topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart after a rising from the #41 position to the top, a jump of forty places. The track was downloaded a total of 277,000 times in the United States alone, the highest debut-week sum since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking downloads in 2003. “Umbrella” was Rihanna’s second number-one single (after “SOS”), and both songs have records for two of the biggest jumps to number one on the Hot 100 chart. At the same time, the song spent a month at number one in Canada, where it became the first song to top the new Canadian Hot 100 chart.

On the Billboard’s year end charts, the song was ranked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 recap, only behind Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable”

In New Zealand, “Umbrella” is the official number one single of the year.

“Umbrella” can be described as Rihanna’s breakthrough song outside the big markets. She topped the chart in countries where none of her previous songs had charted. For example, the song became a number one hit in most of the Hispanic American countries, and in some Eastern European territories.

In Australia it entered at #10 but then just after a week it climbed to #1. After two weeks it re-entered the Australian ARIA charts at #46. According to Fox FM “Umbrella” will probably be number one single again. Also it was classed as the number one song in Australia for 2007.

“Umbrella” topped the UK Singles Chart in May 2007 and stayed there for a phenomenal 10 weeks. This makes it the longest chart topper of the 21st century and the longest chart topper since “Love Is All Around” by Wet Wet Wet in 1994. The song was eventually knocked off in July 2007 by Timbaland. “Umbrella” is the second biggest selling single of 2007 in the UK, beaten by Leona Lewis’ Bleeding Love. It has since re-entered the UK Top 40 at #38 before climbing to #18 the week of December 30, 2007.

The song was #2 on VH1 “Top 10 Biggest Hits Of 2007”.

                                                                               ***Impact of weather***

The song’s reign at number-one in Britain happened when the country was hit by extreme rainfall and flooding, which led some people to jokingly suggest the two events were related, calling it the “Rihanna Curse”. Interestingly, the precise day the song was knocked from the No.1 position, the sun was shining and the weather cleared. A similar situation occurred in New Zealand, where the song hit number-one in the early winter of 2007 as the country was experiencing some of the worst storms in history. Interestingly, in Greece, “Umbrella” was released at a time when people were suffering through a summer of several major heatwaves topping 47C/117F, and the worst forest fires of modern history, killing 60 people. When the song peaked at #4 in the Greek singles chart in October 2007 (being one of the most successful international releases), the country began experiencing a rainy spell. It gained high airplay on radio, proving that it was one of the most successful international releases there (along with Nelly Furtado’s “Say It Right”). In Spain – where “Umbrella” topped the downloads chart for seven consecutive weeks and the Los40 Principales chart for four weeks in August, September and the beginning of October – the country had seen one of the wettest summers in decades, and the coldest August since the beginning of the 20th century.

*The album has had more success than her previous two and is still highly active on worldwide charts. To date, the album has sold more than 3.5 million albums worlwide, and has earned a platinum certification in the United States. Good Girl Gone Bad was the 13th best selling album of 2007.
*Praised by critics with positive reviews, the album received 6 Grammy Award nominations.

***CRITICAL RECEPTION***

Andy Kellman of All Music Guide said that “From beginning to end, Good Girl Gone Bad is as pop as pop gets in 2007, each one of its 12 songs a potential hit in some territory”.
For Billboard Magazine Clover Hope said “Ring the Alarm,” Beyoncé’s disgruntled-female anthem of 2006, was designed to take the normally tame vocalist out of her comfort zone and reveal her aggression. Rihanna’s third album, “Good Girl Gone Bad,” is like that times 10″.
Kelefa Sanneh of New York Times stated that “This CD sounds as if it were scientifically engineered to deliver hits. “Good Girl Gone Bad” should secure her place on pop music’s A-list”.
Pitchfork Media states “An unexpectedly varied and satisfying listen”.
Neil Drumming of Entertainment Weekly said that “Rihanna works well with edgier and wittier verse than on her two previous albums”.
Good Girl Gone Bad has reached the position of two on the Billboard Album Top 200. The album has also reached platinum status in the US.

The album received 6 Grammy Award nominations:Record of the Year, Grammy Award for Best R&B Song, Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for Hate That I Love You), Grammy Award for Song of the Year, Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for Umbrella (song) and Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for Don’t Stop the Music (Rihanna song).

*It performed well reaching the top ten in most charts it entered. In the US, “Irreplaceable” commercially succeed, peaking Billboard’s Hot 100 and staying the chart for ten weeks. The single was the most successful in the album in terms of chart perdormances. In Oceania, the single had the same reception peaking both Australia and New Zealand charts. Along with the single’s certifications gained during its charting period, it received several nominations parallel to its positive reviews.
*While many of the tracks from B’Day have been upbeat club-bangers, featuring heavy 808-driven beats, “Irreplaceable” was well-received by critics for its simple, guitar-driven melody. Bill Lamb of About.com gave the song four and a half stars, and characterized it as “one of the strongest” tracks from the album.
*For Entertainment Weekly, Jody Rosen said that the track was “a lilting tune unlike anything Beyoncé has ever performed,” while Billboard Magazine praised “Irreplaceable”‘s simplicity and “radio-friendliness,” noting that the “song dilutes the excessive instrumentation of B’s first two singles in favor of smooth drum taps and guitar strumming.”
*”Irreplaceable” won the Soul Train Music Award for “Best R&B/Hip-Hop Single: Female,” and the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Award for “Favorite Song.” Beyoncé also won Video of the Year at the 2007 BET Awards for “Irreplaceable” and also won Best Female R&B Artist of the Year.
*Much of the single’s success depended on its considerable airplay. On December 11, 2006,”Irreplaceable” passed the 200 million audience impressions mark in the United States, according to Mediabase. This achievement made Beyoncé one of two artists to have one or two songs pass the 200 million impression mark in a single year; the other artist was Mariah Carey in 2005 (with “We Belong Together” and “Shake It Off”). “Irreplaceable” had major cross-over success, becoming the first song to simultaneously occupy the number-one position on twelve Billboard charts on the week ending December 30, 2006, including the Hot 100, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, Pop 100, Mainstream Top 40, and Rhythmic Top 40 charts. “Irreplaceable” had the best radio audience week of Beyoncé’s career and the second-best sum in the chart’s history, with 201.9 million audience impressions. Only Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” bested that total; it garnered 223 million impressions during a week in July 2005.
*”Irreplaceable” was successful on 2007 Countdowns especially in the US’s Billboard’s 2007: The Year in Music, where it appeared on four spots. It took the top spot on Billboard Hot 100, beating rival single “Umbrella” by pop artist Rihanna. It also charted at number seven on Billboards Hot Dance Singles Sales, number seven on Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs behind Lloyd’s “You” featuring Lil Wayne, and number nine on Billboard Hot Digital Songs behind Fergie’s “Glamorous,” In addition, it also took the spot on Billboard Hot 100 Airplay. Overall, it made to chart on United World Chart’s 2007 Countdown at number eighteen for selling 3,724,000; for the inclusive year, and on the chart’s Top Achievements from 1999-2007 at number forty-seven for selling 5,805,000; just below its 2003 predecessor “Crazy In Love.”
* “Irreplaceable” entered many charts around the world. The following table lists the various charts and peak positions.
* BEYONCE ranked #3 out of 100 in Billboards, Year End Top 100 Female Artist.

* In December 2007, Blender picked Ferguson as their woman of the year.
* Ferguson has had five hit songs from The Dutchess, with “London Bridge”, “Glamorous”, and “Big Girls Don’t Cry” becoming number one singles. Her second single, “Fergalicious”, peaked at #2. “London Bridge” reached #2 on the United World Chart, while “Fergalicious” and “Glamorous” both made it to #4. “Big Girls Don’t Cry” became Ferguson’s first worldwide #1 single, and is her most successful single to date. “Clumsy” was announced as the fifth single from The Dutchess after the major international success of “Big Girls Don’t Cry”. Ferguson has received her fifth Top 5 solo track from The Dutchess after “Clumsy” earned at #5 position on the Billboard Hot 100, on 22 December 2007.
* On November 18, 2007, Ferguson won the Pop or Rock “Favorite Female Artist” at the American Music Awards.
* The album has so far spawned three U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number one singles and five Top 5 hits, making The Dutchess only the seventh album from a female artist to spawn five Top 5 hits.
* The song has achieved high success worldwide, topping the charts in over ten countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Mexico, Austria, Brazil, Croatia and the U.S. (here on at least ten different charts). In the UK it surpassed “London Bridge” as her highest charting solo single thus far, peaking at number two; so far, the single has spent twenty-four weeks on the UK singles chart.
* After spending several weeks in the number two and three positions on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, “Big Girls Don’t Cry” finally ascended to number one, becoming Fergie’s third Hot 100 number-one single, and second consecutive after “Glamorous” in early 2007. Thanks to this achievement Fergie has become only the second American female solo artist in the ’00s to have three chart-toppers from one album after Christina Aguilera in 1999-2000. In addition to the Hot 100, the song topped the Billboard Pop 100, Pop 100 Airplay, Hot 100 Airplay, and Hot Digital Songs charts. It also became her first number one on both the Billboard Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart and the Adult Top 40, where on the later she became the first female artist to top that chart after 52 weeks of number ones by male artists. The song is one of the (if not the) most successful singles of 2007 in the U.S., as it stayed in the top ten of The Hot 100 for 21 consecutive weeks, 18 of those in the top five.
* “Big Girls Don’t Cry” has became Fergie’s most successful single worldwide, surpassing “London Bridge”. The song debuted at number thirty-two and reached number one on it’s thirteenth week, staying there for five consecutive weeks. The song have stayed in the chart for twenty-nine weeks, twenty-six of it were in the top ten. The song is now certified triple-platinum, selling more than six million copies and the currently third best-selling single of the year 2007, behind Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and Nelly Furtado’s “Say It Right” and the 15th best selling song since November 1998 according to MediaTraffic.
* It was also the longest running number one single at the top spot with 9 consecutive weeks (10 in the Download Chart). Also, despite only spending a week at #1 on the New Zealand RIANZ singles chart, “Big Girls Don’t Cry” has become the seventh most successful single in RIANZ music history and the second best seller in the country.
* Topped the charts in several countries most notably in Australia (for nine consecutive weeks) and in the United States. It was the most played song of 2007 in Brazil.
* It is nominated in the ‘Best Female Pop Vocal Performance’ category at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards to be held February 2008. As of January 1, 2008, the single has sold 2,524,542 copies.
